University of Nottingham conduct on-line graduate survey to find out the motivations for choosing to study a Masters Degree.
December 2006
The University of Nottingham is a leading research-intensive University of world renown, with a highly successful postgraduate taught offer which consistently attracts students from around the globe. In an effort to better understand the reasons why graduates choose the post-graduate courses that they do, and with the objectives of informing strategic planning and future marketing effort and course design, the University recently conducted an on-line survey of all their taught postgraduate population.
Working with the lead consultant “the insight edge”, Bowland Solutions provided support in questionnaire design, ensuring that the key objectives of the research project were met. The project started with a series of discussions to establish a clear set of questions that would provide meaningful data for the team at Nottingham. The survey tool was developed and branded and questionnaires sent to over 3,000 current postgraduates and 9,000 former students of the University. The ‘hit rate’ for the current student population was an excellent 45% and a very respectable 5% for the alumni group.
‘We were conscious of the need to survey students in a way that did not disrupt them at what can be a stressful time of year, and at the same time provide meaningful data.’, said Tessa Payne, Head of the Graduate School, University of Nottingham.’
Tessa adds, ‘We were extremely happy with the contribution made by Bowland Solutions, which we believe had a positive impact on the quality of data collected’.
